Home buying is not an easy process. However, with a little bit of research, and with a lot of help, it your dream can become a realty. Get it…realty. One quick link Veterans United Home Loans can get you started on the research. The site really offers answers on a broad scale. Stick to the links relevant to you. No need heading down the proverbial rabbit hole. While I support any approach you take in your research, it’s recommend not signing up for a site, filling out painful forms, or asking someone to contact you. We already have the burden of buying a home so lets not add the burder of trying to take our name off an annoying distro mailing/phone list
Military sources are all over. Military. com is great place to find home ownership news and tips. Head over to the site and click on Military Life-Home Ownership for a few great articles. Military Housing Assistance is vital as well. While I haven’t used it the Dream Makers @PenFedFoundation seems like a tool for financial assistance. When you feel like you know has some basic knowledge and the questions you want to ask (write them down during research-even the ones you think are dumb) are in front of you, reach out and contact someone who cares. Further your knowledge by asking friends who have gone through the process and employ your friends to help. You know they will be crashing your home when you finally get settled. The least they can do is help you, help them.
So a short recap:
Step 1: Understand this is a process. Nothing comes easy. Knowledge is power.
Step 2: Since your a veteran or serving your country, understand your qualifications and resources allotted to you (VA Loan and other benefits).
Step 3: Commit to long term. Unless you know what you’re doing or fall into a lucky find, it is important to understand this is a permanent residence-Love the home you buy.
Step 4: Research, research, research…oh and did I say RESEARCH!
Step 5: Ask yourself and others the questions and concerns that you have been considering; location, price, sq. footage, single or family, lawn or condo, etc. etc. etc. They are really endless. Don’t quit asking until you’re satisfied.
Step 6,7,8: Be patient. Save Money. Be affordable.
Step 9- Infinity: While I’m sure I could go on forever, its important to have a place to start. We will all find what works and what doesn’t. In the end do you. Do what you think is comfortable and feels right. Make sure that feeling of “right” is not an educated one. Good luck and God speed!
STEP INFINITY + 1: MANDATORY- PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR FAVORITE RESOURCE. I WILL ADD IT TO THE NEXT HOME BUYING BLOG AND INCLUDE IT TO THE RESOURCES PAGE.
